May newsletter with lots of art quilty eye candy!
Greetings from My Studio!
Last month was a busy month teaching for 2 wonderful guilds. Everyone was kind and helpful. I really enjoyed New Bern, where I did a little retail therapy. The Ladies worked on 2 little fused art quilts. One was a hibiscus flower and one was a teeny seascape. Most of them had never done anything like this before and they were very enthusiastic and talented. Here's a little photo dump of my 2 day trip and a few of my favorites:

Back in Raleigh, I saw some work at Artspace by my friend Ellen Lindner from FL. We've been friends ever since I met her at SAQA conference years ago. Her work is full of lively colors, and layering of textures from her use of surface design techniques. Here are some of my favorites:

And now we go to Cary, NC where we have the current exhibit from PAQA-South show. I usually enter this show, but this time I didn't make the deadline..again here are some of my favs:

I just loved this jaunty gentleman!

And finally an update showing the progress on this art quilt I am working on inspired by the redbud trees that bloom all around us in NC in the Spring. Originally I wanted to include the little purple flowers, but focused instead on the heart shaped leaves. This piece is entirely pieced without a pattern, except for the branches, which will be appliquéd on top after quilting.

For sure there were many more edits and steps than I am showing here over the course of many weeks, but for now I am happy with where it landed. Gosh, I have so many ideas, and not enough time/energy to make them- do you have that problem too?
That's it for now. I know this is a busy season, so thank you for reading....and happy quilting!

P.S. I am working hard on a new YouTube Channel with new content- the main idea will be about using invisible applique to create improv art quilts, with lots of how-to videos! It's not ready yet, but will be soon sometime this summer....gotta get busy on that!
P.P.S. If you are needing help, you can always purchase a private session with me. Just email me (roxane@roxanelessa.com) to setup our time. I'm your quilt coach, so don't hesitate to use me...
