The 3 apples practice piece is a great way to practice the steps we have outlined already, with a simple one piece background. You can always change the background if you want to make it more complex. Don't forget to iron Misty Fuse ( or your fusible of choice) onto your apple fabric before you cut them out. The pattern is available for you to download and print on your home printer. Once you complete this little piece, I will have a video that shows you how to paint on it. For now, you can set it aside, and work on your background of your actual piece.

First: Place your pattern underneath your freezer paper and trace your pattern onto the dull side of freezer paper.

Next, place some muslin over your pattern and trace the only outlines of the apples with pencil.

Iron fusible web onto the wrong side of your apple fabric. Now, cut out your freezer paper apples and iron the waxy side onto your apples fabric, right side up. Make sure you protect your ironing surface, because the fusible web will melt onto your ironing board cover.Now you can cut around your freezer paper template, leaving a bit extra where they will overlap.

Taking one of your fabric apples, cover it with Saral, chalky side down, and add your freezer paper pattern piece on top. Trace with a pen all lines on your pattern piece.

Saral works like dressmaking marking paper, but without any waxy buildup. It's easy to remove with a bit of water.

Those lines will be traced onto your fabric apple underneath. These are the lines we will use as painting guidelines. Repeat with other apples.

Once you have cut and marked all your apples you can place them onto the background fabric, following your pencil lines, and fuse them down. Now you are ready to paint!
